24/7 Deputy – Administrative Division

The McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for one (1) opening in the Administrative Division for 24/7 Deputy. The 24/7 Deputy Sheriff is assigned to the Civil Division and is under general supervision and shall exercise responsibilities for the enforcement of state and local laws relating to the 24/7 sobriety program, public safety and welfare. Exercise independent judgment in dealing with dangerous or unusual situations while exercising safe practices and procedures. May work under stressful, high risk conditions. Reports to the Civil Sergeant. This position requires a 8.5-hour shift with the potential of working overtime, holidays and weekends. Level and salary commensurate with experience.

Pay Classification B24 (Starting at $32.43/hour depending on applicant experience)
Typical Schedule: 8.5 hr shift Monday through Friday

Essential Job Functions
• Process payments for the 24/7 sobriety program and for fingerprinting
• Maintains records for monthly payments due to the Attorney General’s office
• Tracks refunds of overpayments by program participants
• Order necessary supplies for drug patches, UA kits, PBT tubes, finger printing and continuous alcohol monitoring equipment
• Maintain inventory of SCRAM bracelets and base stations
• Communicate with the BCI 24/7 office regularly
• Coordinate with the Clerk of Courts, States Attorney office, probation and parole officers and various other 24/7 agencies
• Perform finger printing processes
• Obtain and track court papers related to drug monitoring patches, UA testing, PBT Alcohol testing, and Scram alcohol monitoring
• Update 24/7 website with participants, results
• Place drug patches on individuals, schedule removal appointments
• Issue violation papers as needed
• Performs other duties of similar nature, level or as assigned
• Sex Offender Registration and program monitoring
• Sex Offender compliance checks
• Testify in Court as needed
• Arrest violators
• Take walk in or telephonic crime reports
• May be assigned to perform other duties of Deputy Sheriff, Civil Deputy or Court Security Deputy
• Performs other duties of a similar nature, level or as assigned

Knowledge of:
• Ability to decide time, place and sequence of major plans or operations.
• Ability to analyze and categorize data and information using established criteria to define consequences and the ability to consider and select alternatives.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to perform public speaking.
• Ability to use consulting and design data and information, and to evaluate objectively and make timely decisions.
• Knowledge of state statutes and department and county policy and procedures.
• Knowledge of basic math and ability to interpret statistical reports.
• Working knowledge of human behavior and various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Willingness and desire to learn new and challenging tasks.
Skills:

• Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
• Use of firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls.

Minimum Qualification:
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid Driver’s License
• Certified or eligible to be certified as a Law Enforcement Officer through the ND Post Board

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to agency members and members of the public.
• Physical requirements and working conditions:
• Reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, driving, and repetitive motions. Some running and extreme physical exertion may be necessary.
• Combination of Sedentary and Active Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. May be subject to travel.
